WINGS convenes a diverse community of leaders with a wide range of grounded knowledge and experience in the field of global philanthropy. Our reports follow important developments in the sector.

Philanthropy Infrastructure

Infrastructure in Focus: A Special Look at Organizations Serving Community Philanthropy
Community philanthropy shows great promise for strengthening communities throughout the world. For this report, real stories of where community philanthropy support has actually made a difference to the field were used, and data was collected in a universe of 61 WINGS members and network participants supporting community philanthropy — representing more than one thousand community foundations worldwide. The report also builds on a series of WINGS Global Status Reports, which have tracked the growth and development of community foundations worldwide since 2000, creating a unique body of knowledge on the sector.
Infrastructure in Focus: A Global Picture of Organizations Serving Philanthropy
This report, launched at WINGSForum 2014: The Power of Networks in Istanbul on 27 March, aims to enhance the knowledge of global philanthropy. It also engages its members in actively identifying the gaps in our knowledge, and understanding better their local practices within a global context. Though we are diverse, we have a common platform through which to build and share many of the same values. The report identifies four elements of such a platform: data, practices update, ability to measure impact, and communication. We believe it is important to create a degree of commonality while encouraging the richness of diversity, build common understanding of terms within global and local contexts, and strengthen ownership of this knowledge-building by WINGS members.

Community Foundations

For the past 10 years, WINGS Global Status Report on Community Foundations has tracked the development of community foundation worldwide, serving as a key reference for the field. While community foundations themselves refer to these reports for sound information, it has also been a useful resource to foundations, donors, researchers, and others interested in the field.

Global Status Report on Community Foundations - 2012 Update
The 2012 update follows developments in the community foundation sector, which now counts with new important actors. To this end, the report focuses on the role of support organisations and key developments in the field. We explore new issues and collect data for the analysis of three main themes: the role of support organisations, significant trends, and issues to address. We also portray four initiatives from both organisations already included in the 2010 report and new ones. This is just the beginning of a major, and much needed, discussion to be addressed in a broader report in 2014. Recent changes in the community foundation field demand a more complex debate about how it is understood and its definitions for a truly global profile to be done.
Global Status Report on Community Foundations - 2000 to 2010
2010 2008 2005 2004 2003 2000 In 1999, the International Programs department of the Council on Foundations and WINGS-CF sponsored a project to track for the first time the global development of community foundations. This resulted in the publication, "The Growth of Community Foundations Around the World: An examination of the vitality of the community foundation movement" (2000). The 2003 status report update focused on international community foundation trends and developments since the previous report, and became the first in a series of three annual reports, followed by the 2004 status report and the 2005 status report. The 2008 status report includes brief country status reports, and in 2010 WINGS produced the first web version of the report. Visit the WINGS-CF Global Status Report 2010 website.

WINGSForum Conference Reports

Held every four years, WINGSForum has become the premier event in the global philanthropy community. Focused on identifying new innovations in the sector, WINGSForum was designed as a peer learning experience where philanthropy leaders could share practical lessons and inspiration from their work.

WINGSForum 2014: The Power of Networks - Building connected global philanthropy
From 27-29 March 2014, 174 WINGS members, network participants, funders, and peers in the philanthropic sector convened on Istanbul, Turkey, for WINGSForum 2014. Plenary and concurrent sessions featured stories, case studies and practical tools, through roundtable discussions and interactive sessions, and the event marked the launch of the WINGS report, Infrastructure in Focus, which represents a starting point to build a comprehensive picture of global philanthropy infrastructure.
WINGSForum 2010: Innovation and Impact - The Role of Grantmaker Associations in Changing Society
WINGSForum 2010 was hosted by the Associazione Italiana Fondazioni e Enti di Erogazione (Association of Foundations and Grantmaking Organizations) or Assifero and the Associazione di Fondazioni e di Casse di Risparmio Spa (Association of Italian Foundations and Savings Bank) or ACRI.
WINGSForum 2006: Engaging Business - Building Community Capacity
WINGSForum 2006 took place from 16-18 November in Bangkok, Thailand. The Bangkok event attracted 50% more participants than its predecessor in Sydney, and included extensive satellite meetings which focused on the promotion, development and support of community foundations and corporate giving.

Global Institutional Philanthropy

Part 1: Preliminary Status Report
For the first time ever, this study brings together disparate knowledge and data on institutional giving from countries around the world. We believe that the study will be of great value to a large and varied audience including policy makers, philanthropists, nonprofit practitioners, and academics who wish to understand and strengthen the practice of philanthropy. Part One collates survey responses, including a discussion of philanthropic trends and characteristics, the legal environment for institutional giving, obstacles and challenges to the growth of institutional philanthropy, and institutional philanthropic models.
Part 2: Country Profiles
Part Two provides profiles of institutional philanthropy in 24 individual countries and the Arab region, employing a similar outline.

Corporate Philanthropy

Current Landscape of CSR

This "mapping exercise" on the definitions, current concepts and practices of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) worldwide, aims to serve as a reference for grantmaker associations and philanthropic support organizations that promote and support corporate giving, and to provide an overview for those who intend to engage in the support of corporate giving.
