Description: Join the Global Funders Network for a brown bag lunch discussion of legal considerations in global philanthropy. Hazen Graves, partner in the law firm of Faegre Baker Daniels, will present and facilitate a discussion of practical legal issues encountered by U.S. funders making charitable grants outside the U.S.

Issues to be addressed will include (as time allows): 

  • use of U.S. intermediary organizations;
  • navigating U.S. anti-terrorism, trade sanctions, anti-corruption laws and tax laws;  
  • reducing risk of fraudulent uses of grant funds; and
  • managing compliance with local laws.

Hazen Graves is a partner in Faegre Baker Daniels' Minneapolis office concentrating on matters relating to charities and charitable giving. He advises nonprofit organizations of all kinds regarding nonprofit corporation and charitable trust laws, governance, income and real estate tax exemption, unrelated business income tax, private foundation rules, director liability, charitable contributions and general nonprofit business matters.
