Meet the panel

Ben Lock, Senior Director International Affairs,Edelman

Ben Lock leads Edelman UK’s International Affairs practice which provides strategic communications consultancy to clients looking to build, enhance or protect reputations across multiple markets. Ben has a particular expertise in working with NGOs and civil society organisations to advance causes globally. Ben currently provides strategic communications counsel for organisations including the Elders (group of independent leaders founded by Nelson Mandela), the Aurora Prize (international humanitarian award) and Walk Free (NGO focused on ending contemporary slavery).

Paula Fabiani, CEO, IDIS Brazil

Paula Fabiani is CEO of IDIS (Institute for the Development of Social Investment). Previously, she was the financial director of Maria Cecília Souto Vidigal Foundation and has had roles in the private sector working in asset management at BankBoston Corporation and mergers and acquisitions at Lloyds Bank. She holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business – New York University and holds an executive education in Endowment Asset Management from the London Business School and Yale.

Maria Chertok, CEO, CAF Russia

Maria has been working with CAF Russia since 1997, and since May 2005 as a director. She is currently Chair of WINGS Board Members, member of the Advisory Board of the Community Foundations Partnership, member of the Editorial Board of Alliance magazine and a co-organiser of the Olga Alexeeva Memorial Prize. She has been involved in a number of exciting innovations in the Russian philanthropic sector, including development of community foundations model, corporate giving and private foundations.

David Stead, Director of Philanthropy & Development, CAF

David Stead leads CAF's Philanthropy Division, which works with private client, family and corporate donors globally to help them achieve their goals for philanthropy and social investment. David has been in his current position at CAF since November 2013, having joined after two years as CEO at London legal firm 11KBW. David sits on and chairs several charity boards and advisory groups working with smaller UK charities through to large international foundations. He has an MBA from IESE, and BSc from Cass Business School.
